Artist's Statement

I paint abstracts because the process captivates me. Hours fly by as a drip, swirl, scrape of glorious colors and textures forms a finished painting. This is my sandbox.  And when I paint a recognizable subject, like a dog or gorilla, I am not aiming to get a photo realistic image, rather the spirit of personality, the glint of character in their eyes and attitude in the pose. To me all else is in service.

Beatrice Wilhelm works with an emphasis on process and movement in abstracted and representational styles with subjects from nature.

A B.A. from the University of British Columbia on the study of literature, film, and creative writing combined with an Art Therapy Diploma from the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute (VATI) further inform and influence her approach.

She built her foundational art skills through workshops and art school sessional studies.  She has studied with Mike Svob, Robert Burridge, Adeline Halvorson, Emily Carr U., Burnaby Arts Centre, Alberta College of Art and Design, North Mount Pleasant Arts Centre, Wild Flower Arts Centre, University of Calgary, Calgary School of Art, and Red Deer College Summer Art Series and Federation of Canadian Artists workshops, and Winslow Art Centre.

Her work employs acrylics on paper, canvas, and wood surfaces and also works in oil.  With paintings are in private collection in Ottawa, Ont., Vancouver, B.C., Victoria, B.C., Drayton Valley, AB, Saskatoon, Sask., and Calgary, Alberta, Beatrice has an online website www.beatricewilhelm.ca.   She is an Active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and President of the Calgary Sketch Club.
