Lauren Wallace is a Calgary-based, self-taught watercolour artist capturing the wild spirit of Western Canada. She has spent over twenty years as an interior designer, and she brings a designer’s eye to her paintings of western Canada’s mountains, wildlife, and wild horses.
Her work was recently selected among 100 international artists for exhibition at the Calgary International Watercolour Festival, and she has shown and sold her paintings at markets across Calgary and Canmore, including the Calgary Lilac Festival, Inglewood Night Market, Canmore Mountain Market, and the Millarville Spring Market.
Lauren Wallace
“I paint the Rocky Mountains and wild horses of Western Canada in watercolour. I’m drawn to both because neither can be tamed: the mountains are beautiful and still, until they’re not, and the wild horses refuse to be fenced in or told what they’re supposed to be. I paint tightly, in careful layers, but the paint still creates beautiful blooms and blends that aren’t always predictable, almost wild, no matter how much I try to control it.”
