Laurie calls Calgary home but spent her younger years in a small, lakeside town just outside of Montreal. As a child she would visit her grandparents in Alberta and always knew she was going to live in Calgary someday. The big sky, dynamic landscape, from mountains, to streams to prairies and the light of the western sun inspire her work. She spends her summers at the family cottage on Lake of the Woods in Ontario where the lush forests, rocky shores and the big, expansive lake with all of its’ islands, is where she likes to be every summer.
Her work is primarily in oil as she finds the lushness of the paint and the ability to manipulate the colours and textures lends itself to nature. Recently, she is also venturing into the world of acrylic landscapes. During the summer, she likes to drive around the Calgary countryside to paint ‘en plein air’, or outside. In her studio she works on landscapes paintings from pictures taken in her drives with her husband around Alberta.

“As an artist my goal is to create a painting with a sense of colour and light of the natural beauty that surrounds us. I am inspired by the broad expanse of Alberta skies, the rolling hills of our Prairies and the rocky shores at our cottage in Ontario.
While primarily painting in oil and acrylic, I do enjoy learning new techniques and methods and seeing where this journey takes me. ”
