Nancy has lived in a variety of places and it is always the geography surrounding her that she finds intriguing, creating a need to put it on canvas. Raised in southern Ontario, she was surrounded by the Great Lakes, and loved the calming effect of water, which may account for the frequent presence of blue in her work. She travelled across Canada as a youth, enjoying the variety of landscapes, and then moved to France as an adult with her family. While in France, she became enamoured with the light and colours in Provence and was influenced by the work of the Impressionists. She now lives in Calgary, AB and is inspired by the rolling hills, wide open skies and the views of the Rockies.
Nancy paints mostly landscapes using oils and acrylics, with her style varying between representational and abstracts. She has studied with various teachers for the past 15 years, and is continually taking classes and workshops.
Nancy is an active member of the Calgary Sketch Club, and as Program Chair, arranges educational programming.

“Precision has always been a fascination. My works are created entirely from memory, which is unfortunate, because my memory of what a human body looks like is apparently a circle on top with five lines coming out of it.
Through my process I develop original interpretations of the world around me. By simplifying and reducing, I can showcase the essential truth of any subject — that at its core, everything can be expressed in five lines or fewer. My loop-da-loops demonstrate a mastery of the continuous curve. My snowflakes contain multitudes.
So, as you can no doubt tell, I am an artist. Maybe? Probably... Yes, probably.”
