I was born in Calgary and with my husband, Allan, raised two sons here. Both my parents instilled a love of nature and camping was our family’s favorite form of recreation. I painted off and on while working full-time but started seriously when I retired fifteen years ago. I am mostly self-taught, reading everything I can about art & watercolor. I love all forms of Art but a mixture of realism; mostly involving landscape, animals or flowers, and an abstract portion that allows for personal expression is my favorite. Watercolor and Water media, such as acrylic ink and alcohol ink, are my specialty. They often surprise with special effects that cannot easily be obtained by other mediums. I was juried in to the Calgary Sketch Club in 2014 and currently serve as the Club Historian and Photographer as well as being on the Board. I started painting portraiture after taking a course at ACAD with Jamie Morris and a workshop with Jean Pederson. I am finding it challenging but very rewarding. My last workshop was with Sarah Kidner focusing on figurative work in urban settings. For me, being an artist means life long learning and never losing that sense of “what if……”

“I love art that tells a story and that makes use of both abstract and realistic elements. When painting in my studio with any medium that flows and with good music playing in the background, I find everything just disappears for hours. I’m a color junkie but have come to realize that neutrals are necessary to make color sing. Sometimes that’s hard to remember as I view all the juicy colors on my palette. I believe art to be my lifelong passion. I also believe that being really “present” in whatever I’m experiencing translates into better art. In our fast-paced lives it’s too easy to be so focused on multi-tasking, I want to take time to smell the roses. To be able to create something that connects with another person makes me feel my talent is appreciated and is very rewarding.”
