My name is Mavis Gauchier, I am a Calgary based artist focusing on Acrylic Painting. I have always had a love for photography and exploring my natural surroundings. The color, contrast, and shapes found in nature are what catch my eye and draw me in for a closer look. I am intrigued by the small hidden treasures that can be found when looking beyond the obvious and to see how these small pieces work together to produce a beautiful piece of nature. Living in Calgary and having such diverse surroundings is a blessing and I find endless inspiration for my creative side in the smallest parts of a flower, to the vast countryside and mountain ranges around me. Both my photography and paintings are an expression of how I see my surroundings and I am grateful to have the opportunity to EXPLORE and CREATE, expressing my vision of the world through my art. I hope my artwork inspires people to pause and look beyond the obvious, taking in some of the small details that we so easily overlook.

“Precision has always been a fascination. My works are created entirely from memory, which is unfortunate, because my memory of what a human body looks like is apparently a circle on top with five lines coming out of it.
Through my process I develop original interpretations of the world around me. By simplifying and reducing, I can showcase the essential truth of any subject — that at its core, everything can be expressed in five lines or fewer. My loop-da-loops demonstrate a mastery of the continuous curve. My snowflakes contain multitudes.
So, as you can no doubt tell, I am an artist. Maybe? Probably... Yes, probably.”
